Amazing prices for our most popular art and craft class - painting. Tutorials are for all levels - beginners, intermediate or advanced, with our experienced art tutors at Kouklia Arts.
Classes take place on location and in the Kouklia based art studio!
Choosing your subject
Here you are with the desire to be creative - perhaps something you have always aspired to but never had the time.
We have many people coming to the studio who have not drawn or painted before - are keen to have a go, but don't know where to start. - That's where we can help !
Start with something which attracts you - in it's form and composition - ideal subjects being landscape, scenes, or forms such as trees, or still life. - best to avoid animals, portraiture or body form at the early stage - plenty of time for that - just take it easy.
With Adult students it is most motivating to produce a finished product which they are inspired by.
In creating your first piece, with a tutor, you will learn many of the basic techniques which will give you a good grounding for your future work, and build confidence in yourself and your ability to draw or paint. .
Get out there with your camera - perhaps photograph your garden , a favourite place or even Grandma's old tea[pot ,and produce some references.- Anything which is pleasing to your eye and you are visually attracted to. - A Tutor will guide you through the interpretation of your chosen piece, and methods of transferring from reference to finished work, considering which medium is ideal to start with and which best suits the subject, and which resources will then be required. At Kouklia Arts we have a wide range of materials available for drawing and painting, and for beginners advise not to rush out and buy equipment - use ours until you ' get going' and know that you wish to continue your development and which way that journey will take you.
Below are to very different examples of ' first works'' by adult students - each very different but both of which provided the painter with the wish and the confidence to continue - subjects which attracted them and which provided the opportunity to progress immediately to the canvas and brush, learning technique as the work progressed.- Something to be proud of and ho happily hang on the wall.
As a first Blog - I would like to introduce the 'learning environment' which best supports development.
Everybody is individual, and more, or less confident of their skills - - however from complete beginner to more practiced Artists - we all benefit from continual development.
For some, a 1/1 tutorial is preferred - giving the total focus of the tutor, and step by step guidance to the hints and tips we all use to bring images to life.
Others enjoy a group session - albeit that each participant works to their own level, and at their own pace within the group. Group members get to know others, and exchange ideas offer motivation, and bring confidence to one another whilst benefiting from the ' softer touch of a shared Tutor.
Either way, whether painting a field of poppies, a portrait of you dog or cat, or the view from your window, there are some basic formulas to painting and drawing, which will amaze and surprise you when you find out just how easy it can be to produce your very own masterpiece. .
I am always fascinated by the range of styles we see developing in group classes - given same subjects and medium, each learner will begin to develop their own style and method of interpretation, - putting their own distinct signature on their work.
Last week, within one of the classes Participants were sharing the space of the studio, and offering a range of subjects - I saw seascapes, two Kingfishers, and a Castle - with our Tutor moving between individuals offering guidance, ' as and when required'.
So whatever the learning style or method - there is something for everybody - it's a question of choice, and the main emphasis is on enjoyment. .
Future Blogs will be offering more detailed hints, tips and ideas on Artwork - so ' watch this space'
